Jones County students travel to East Coast

In speaking with trip advisor Katie Venard, the recent field trip to Washington, D.C. and New York City sounded like one to remember! The week long itinerary began with a first stop in Webster, S.D. The Murdo group met up with another tourist group and everybody traveled by bus to Minneapolis. From Minneapolis they boarded a flight to Baltimore and then got onto another bus to drive into Washington, D.C. The group spent two and a half days in Washington, D.C., and were able to see all the monuments, meet a couple Holocaust survivors at the National Holocaust Museum and also go to Arlington National Cemetery. While at Arlington they witnessed the first female commander during the Changing of the Guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. 
On Friday everyone drove to New York City by bus and spent a total of one and a half days touring the city. A few places they were able to visit included the One World Observatory where they saw all of New York City from 102 floors above, a night view of Brooklyn Bridge and they also got to watch the Broadway play, “Wicked.” Other exciting activities included riding on a subway, visiting the Statue of Liberty, visiting Ellis Island, stopping at Central Park and also shopping in Times Square. Before everyone headed home they were able to go to the 9-11 Memorial Museum, and also stop at a Willy Wonka inspired candy store owned by Ralph Lauren’s daughter. 
Unexpectantly at the end of the trip everybody spent seven hours in the LaGuardia Airport after their plane had been delayed by the weather. But everybody arrived safely back home to Murdo around 10:00 a.m. on Monday morning.
