Donald J. Jobgen

March 5, 1936 - June 20, 2015

    Donald Jerome Jobgen, 79, Scenic, S.D., passed away on June 20, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Joyce (Volmer) Jobgen. They shared 59 years of marriage together.
    Donald was born on the Jobgen Homestead in Scenic, on March 5, 1936 to Matthew and Glenola (McClain) Jobgen. He attended grade school at the Jobgen School. He attended his ninth grade in the basement of the church in Scenic. He then went on to New Underwood High School until his sophomore year.
    He met Joyce Elaine Volmer at the Scenic community dance. They were united in marriage on June 24, 1956 in New Underwood. To this union they welcomed four boys; Gene, Marvin, Richard, and Duane. They resided on the Jobgen Homestead throughout their marriage. Donald had a passion for farming and mechanizing. He had a way of making something from nothing.
    Donald was a very community orientated man, including the Scenic Township, Scenic Fire Department, Scenic Cemetery, Wall School Board, the American Agriculture Movement, R-Calf, SD Stockgrowers, and Farmers Union. He was also a member of the Interior Community Church.
    He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Scenic; four sons, Gene (Carla) Jobgen, Rapid City, Marvin (Kathy) Jobgen, Scenic, Richard (Clara) Jobgen, Kadoka, Duane (Carla) Jobgen, Scenic; 11 grandchildren, Dayton, Katie, Chas, Tanner, Shawna, Jake, Kristi, Cory, Amy, Alicia, and Tom; 14 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Helen Anderson, Oelrichs, Margaret Olic, Rapid City, Lou (Francis) Hopfinger, Piedmont, Marcella Hale, Hay Springs, Neb., Dorothy (Kenny) Aker, Sturgis; brother-in-law, Larry (Faye) Volmer, Owanka; and his beloved dog, Sally.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers-in-law; two nieces; and one nephew.
    Memorials have been established to the Scenic Fire Department and Scenic Cemetery.
    Visitation will be Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Home with a prayer service starting at 6:30 p.m.
    Funeral service will be Friday, June 26, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the New Underwood School Gym with Pastor Ken Toews officiating. Burial will follow at the Scenic Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
