Joan D. (Tines) Racicky

Joan D. (Tines) Racicky, 81, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025, surrounded by her family and friends.

Joan was born in New Underwood, SD on August 23, 1943, to Johnny and Natalie (Swanson) Tines.  She received her elementary education at the Pierce School (two miles south of Elm Springs, SD), attending Wasta for her first year of high school, and then graduating from New Underwood in 1961.  Joan attended Greene’s School of Beauty Culture where she obtained her cosmetology license. She married Gene Reichert in 1963 and from this union two children were born, a daughter, DeLynn and a son, Monte.  During this time, they lived in Hereford, SD where she provided beautician services in her home.  They also farmed, ranched, and did various agricultural custom ventures including hay moving.  In 1974, the family moved to Union Center, SD.  From 1974 to 1980, they built and operated Central Feeds, the first custom feed mill in Central Meade County.

In 1980 Joan moved to New Underwood, SD where Ronnie offered her a place to move her home.  Their friendship turned into true love, and they spent the next 40 years together.  Ronnie gained two children, DeLynn and Monte with grandkids and great grandkids to follow.

Her first years in New Underwood she worked at Happy Hoots café. She then opened an in-home daycare where she had a meaningful impact on the children she cared for and their parents.  She ended her daycare when they purchased New Underwood Lumber and Hardware.

Joan went to work for Plant World in 2009, which she later purchased and renamed Joan’s Plant Service.  She operated that venture until 2024.  All while together, Joan and Ronnie owned and operated Racicky Plumbing and Ditching.

Joan’s kitchen always had a light on and was known as the favorite gathering spot for all her family and friends.  Joan always took the time to listen and not judge.  She loved to cook and host family gatherings, and her candy drawer was always filled.  Joan believed that you couldn’t spoil a child with too much love or candy.

Joan had a green thumb, and she took a lot of pride in her beautiful yard and garden.  She always looked forward to spring and raising chickens in her back yard.  She loved road trips with family and friends.  She was always ready for the next adventure and hardly ever missed a moment to spend with her kids and grandkids.  Her happiest place was at home surrounded by her family.

Joan is survived by DeLynn Willis (fiancé Jim Stratman), Monte Reichert (Loni), grandkids Marissa Duprel (Jake), Lacey Dickschat (Emmit), Radley Reichert, Jesse Willis (Bella), Sadie Tisdale (Jackson), Jordan Siefers (Kyle), Cassidy Wientjes (Reese), Great grandchildren Abby, Taylee and Kaydee Duprel, Addison and Hayes Dickschat, Carter and Noah Tisdale and Wilder Wientjes, Brother Cary Tines (Pam), and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ronnie Racicky, parents Johnny and Natalie Tines, brother Jack Tines, and sister Kay Williamson.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.

Joan will always be remembered to all who knew her as a Best Friend

She was a tiny lady with the biggest heart.

We will all miss hearing the words “why don’t we just sit down,  visit, and have one more”.

Funeral Services will be at the New Underwood School at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 24, 2025. Visitation will begin at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in the New Underwood Cemetery.

Kirk Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Rapid City is assisting the family with arrangements.
