Robert “Bob” Cromwell, 68, of Pierre passed away on October 26, 2023, at Avera St. Mary’s in Pierre. A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on Friday, November 10 at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre. For those unable to attend the services they will be live streamed on his obituary page at www.isburgfuneralchapels.com.
Bob was born to Clarence and Ilene (Stainbrook) Cromwell. As he was growing up, Bob’s family lived in Murdo, Parkston, and Wakonda, South Dakota. Bob later attended trade school in Glasgow, Montana, and lived in Fargo North Dakota.
In 1981, Bob moved to Vermillion, where he met Naomi. Bob and Naomi were married on September 11, 1982. While in Vermillion, Robert was employed by Meckling Fertilizer, started and operated Vermillion Taxi, and later became an over-the-road truck driver, a job he enjoyed until a back injury forced him to stop. They spent nearly two decades in Vermillion before moving to Pierre.
Bob was an avid fisherman his whole life, with many stories about bass fishing in stock dams when he was young, and fishing with his dad and brothers for northern pike. Bob and Naomi enjoyed fishing together as often as they could.
Bob’s passion for muscle cars as a teenager never left him as an adult. He spent endless hours over the years restoring a 1967 Chevelle SS, and seemed to enjoy equally driving and just showing off that beauty.
His dogs were an important part of his life. Bob made sure all of his dogs were loved, had plenty of Milk Bones, and were as spoiled as possible.
A skilled handyman, Bob was generous in offering his skills to help his friends and neighbors to assist with a project or repair. A special act of generosity Bob particularly enjoyed was his annual summer tradition of picking and giving away pickup loads of sweet corn. This simple act of kindness was a testament to Bob's generous spirit and his love for his community.
Bob is survived by his wife Naomi; his mother, Ilene; his brothers, Randy, Roger (Janet), and Roy (Brenda); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Clarence.
