Nina Mildred (Vey) Fairchild

Nina Mildred (Vey) Fairchild was born in Little Hearts Ease, Newfoundland, UK, Canada on May 31,1941.  She died at home surrounded by family at 84 years old on November 19, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Nina was always a very independent girl, and this was very evident in her development.  She selected her life mate early at 17 years old and married at 18.  She met Kent Fairchild during a blind date with another sailor who she rejected for Kent.  They were married July 8, 1959.
This union lasted for over 66 years including more than 24 years with the US Navy and 22 years on the Fairchild family farm in South Dakota.  Many times, during Kent’s deployments to Iceland and on the USS Kitty Hawk, she was the one who made all the decisions about family and home.   After retirement from the Navy and during Kent’s 8 months on the farm, she held down the fort at Lemoore, CA, visiting Kent a few times during the summer.
Nina is survived by her husband Kent and daughters Arlene Evans (Dwight) and Dawn Fairchild (Dan Austin).  Siblings Milton Vey, Irene Peddle, Arther Vey and Kevin Vey, 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  Deceased are daughter Debra Moran and son Brian Fairchild and her parents Nicholas and Miriam Vey.
