Lavina Goddard

   On September 4, 1947, Lavina and twin sister, Lavera were born to Wesley and Evelyn (Cooper) Lushbough in Rapid City, SD.  While working one summer at the BHSC cafeteria, she met Marshall Goddard.  Marshall and Lavina wed on February 13, 1965, at the Presbyterian church in Sturgis, SD.  She graduated from Spearfish High School that spring and went on to earn her teaching certificate at Black Hills State.  Marshall and Lavina spent two years teaching rural schools in the Phillip area.  Marshall and Lavina moved to Prairie City, SD, in 1970 and spent the next 37 years ranching.  In 1982, Lavina was added to the Lords Church and remained a devoted Christian until her passing.  In 2007, Lavina and Marshall moved to Sturgis, SD.
   Lavina was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.  She had no greater joy than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  They were the loves of her life and her memory will live on forever in their hearts. 
   Lavina Ruth Goddard passed away peacefully on June 12, 2020, at her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.
Blessed for having shared in her life are her children, Todd (Janelle) Goddard of Prairie City, SD, and Tammy Derschan, Sturgis, SD; sister, Lavera (Ken) Moum Sturgis, SD; mother-in-law, Anna Goddard, Sturgis, SD; grandchildren, Ashleigh (Steven) Nash, Prairie City, SD, Roy Goddard (Shannon Bailey), Prairie City, SD, Chandler Derschan (Joseph Loux), Spearfish, SD, and Broox Derschan (Kassidi Goldsmith), Humboldt, SD; great-grandchildren, Quinleigh and Lloyd Nash; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Lavina was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Goddard; parents, Wesley and Evelyn Lushbough; brother, Ralph Lushbough; father-in-law, Forrest Goddard; and infant grandson, David Marshall Derschan.
   A memorial has been established to the Sorum/Reva Fire Department.
   A private graveside service was held on Monday, June 15, 2020 at the Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
