Laura May (Davidson) Hackworth was born May 4, 1931, in Murdo to Emroy and Opal (Chatterton) Davidson. She graduated from Wessington High School in 1950 then went on to get her teaching certificate.

As she taught, she also would cook and do waitressing. She also did college courses, and she eventually obtained her bachelor’s degree in teaching.

During this time, she was united in marriage to Henry Patzer on Dec. 22, 1953, in Gainsville, Texas.

She taught at country schools,  Old Trail and Enterprise, until 1977. She then moved back to Sturgis and was as a social service worker until her retirement.

After retiring, she enjoyed helping Ed on the fruit truck and also at the Park Avenue Laundromat for Ron Johnson. She became a member at Blessed Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
Laura also enjoyed spending time with family and helping to take care of her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and whoever else came wandering her way. There was never a stranger, just someone they never met yet. She also enjoyed gardening and especially loved her roses.
