Henry Luken

Henry Lowell Luken, 92, passed away August 20, 2018 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
    Lowell was born on April 10, 1926 to Harley and Nora (McCullough) Luken in Murdo, South Dakota. He was the fourth born out of seven children.  After leaving the family farm, he worked at Homestake gold mine before joining the Navy. He served as an electrician on the jets that boarded the ships he was on.
    After a 22-year Navy career and three foreign wars, he worked as a money counter at the Las Vegas Airport Casino until his retirement in 1988. He continued to live in Las Vegas until he started traveling in 1999 to see family he hadn’t seen in years. He eventually settled in Rapid City, where he enjoyed spending time with his two older sisters. Lowell was a member of T.R.E.A
    He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bonnie, Evelyn, and Ada; and brothers, Les and Dick. He leaves behind one sister, Betty Lou of Renton, Wash.; two step daughters; and many favorite nieces and nephews; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
    A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Kirk Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery, near Sturgis.
