Flavia Stotts, age 98, of Murdo, S.D., died on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the Avera Maryhouse in Pierre.
Flavia Ferry (Hampton) Stotts was one of nine children born to Henry Clyde and Lillie Myrtle (Williams) Hampton. She was born on the homestead nine miles south of Draper, S.D. on October 10, 1924. Flavia, 98, joined Harold in their eternal home on July 20, 2023 at Avera Maryhouse in Pierre, South Dakota.
Flavia received her elementary and high school education in a rural school and in the towns of Murdo and Draper, S.D. She graduated from high school in Draper in May of 1943 as the Valedictorian of her class. She attended Springfield College and received her teacher’s degree. She taught school at South Highland and West Buffalo in Jones County.
Flavia married Harold Stotts on May 27, 1946, in Murdo, S.D. They spent those years farming the homestead and raising their five children. Flavia worked at the Okaton Grocery Store for twenty years. She enjoyed family, winters in Arizona, square dancing, playing cards and dominos, and reading.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Draper, Okaton, and Murdo; the American Legion Auxiliary since 1952 and served many years as a 4-H Leader.
Flavia is survived by her five children: Maynard (Chris) Stotts of Casper, Wyo., Raymond Stotts of Murdo, S.D., Mardell (Butch) Davis of Fort Pierre, S.D., Donna (Frank) Volmer of Winner, S.D., and Connie Mowry of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren; sister Ardith Larsen of Verdigre, Neb.; and sister-in-law Vivian Hampton of Platte, S.D.
Flavia was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Stotts; parents Henry Clyde and Lillie Myrtle (Williams) Hampton; siblings: Juanita (Orville) Weber, Everett Hampton, Floyd Hampton, Charles Hampton, Clyde (Vi) Hampton, Lyla (Vernon) Sorensen, Darlene (Lee) Woods; granddaughter Danielle Grant; son-in-law Curtis Robbennolt; daughter-in-law Dianne Stotts; and brother-in-law Chris Larsen.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral service.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. (CDT) Monday, July 24, at United Methodist Church in Murdo.
Interment followed at the Murdo Cemetery.
