Doris Elaine (Carstensen) Kraft

Doris Elaine Kraft, 78, of Rapid City, SD passed away at Westhills Village on Tuesday, July 7th, 2020.
Doris was born in Philip, SD on February 26th, 1942 to Lucille and Emery E. "Jack" Carstensen. She graduated from Philip High School, Philip, SD Class of 1961. Doris was a military wife, mother, and grandmother, South Dakota Licensed Day Care Provider from 1973 to 1980, volunteered at the Ellsworth AFB Thrift Shop for a number of years, and canned vegetables from their garden every summer while she and George lived at their home in Box Elder, SD.
George and Doris later moved to Rapid Valley in July 1996, after George’s second career retirement. They enjoyed many years spending time together traveling to casinos and playing bingo and time with their grandchildren. When George’s health started to decline, they moved to Primrose Retirement Community of Rapid City, where they made many new friends. After George’s death on April 17, 2017, she continued to live at Primrose Retirement Community.
What brought Doris joy was her children, grandchildren, Koko (Patty’s dog), as well as bingo, playing cards, board games, and watching Dr. Phil.
Grateful for having shared her life include her four children, Theresa (Daniel) Ertz, Patty (Alan Peil) Kraft, Wendy (Loren) Groenewoud, and Rodney Kraft; her brothers, Charles Carstensen of Philip and Orrin (Cheryl) Carstensen of Gillette, Wyoming; her sister, Arlys Seaton of Clear Lake, Iowa; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband George Kraft, Doris was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Kirk Funeral Home, with Pastor Matt Veal officiating.  The committal service will follow at Kirk Funeral Home due to Covid restrictions at Black Hills National Cemetery. We asked all guests at the funeral to wear face masks please.
