Dick Daum

Dick James Daum, age 81, of Murdo, South Dakota, passed away from cancer on Monday, August 20, 2018, at the Rapid City Regional Hospice House,
Dick was born January 23, 1937 in Murdo, SD; the youngest of 11 children born to Nickolas and Elizabeth (Hoekman) Daum. He grew up on the family farm, and attended elementary and middle school in Okaton, and high school in Murdo. He graduated from Huron College in 1959. Dick excelled in athletics throughout his high school and college years, and remained a passionate sports fan all of his life.
In 1965 Dick married Judith Andrick (1939-2015) with whom he had three children, Jessica, Jeremy and Joy. Throughout his life, he worked as both a farmer and a teacher, and especially loved the years spent as a special education instructor at Crazy Horse School in Wanblee, from where he retired in 2013. His interest in farming never waned, and he looked forward to each year’s planting and harvest times.
He is survived by his children Jessica (Brian) Trent of Lewisville, Tex., Jeremy (Katrin) Daum of Rapid City, and Joy (Dan) Moller of Rapid City; six grandchildren: Davis and Dawson Trent; Aaron, Kara and Anna Daum; and Sachiana Daum, as well as two sisters, Katie Miller of Kansas City,, Kan. and Betty (Bill) Sloas of Memphis, Tenn., one brother, Nick (Pat) Daum of Dix, Neb., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at a later date.
