Charles A. "Chuck" Sinkey

  • age 83 of Midland, South Dakota , died August 25, 2015, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

 

Charles Arthur Sinkey (Chuck) was born February 12, 1932, in Cooper, SD. He was one of four children of Art and Helen Sinkey.

He attended grade school at Cooper School in rural Meade County. At the age of fourteen, Chuck quit school to help his grandpa on the ranch. Chuck was drafted into the Army on December 10th, 1952, and served his entire duty in Korea during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged October 15th, 1954. On December 4th, 1954, Chuck married Betty Louise Anderson and together they raised seven children, Duwayne, Russell, Eileen, Pamela, Dennis, Anita and Sherri.

Charles, “Chuck” to all of his friends, managed and operated several ranches in the area, and was an avid horseman and cattle man all of his life. He was very respected because of his knowledge of livestock and people enjoyed being around him. 

Chuck loved music and could play several instruments. He was a self-taught musician and played all by ear. As a teenager he played in a band with his dad and brother.

Survivors include his wife Betty Sinkey of Midland; seven children Duwayne Sinkey (Barb Stoeser) of Kennebec, Charles “Russ” Sinkey (Cindy) of Midland, Eileen Aberle of Pierre, Pamela Sinkey of Ft. Pierre, Dennis Sinkey (Cathy Johnson) of Midland, Anita Hamilton (Robert) of Chamberlain, and Sherrie Rae Kaus (Chris Becker) of Faribault, Minnesota; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Leo Sinkey; and two sisters Ann Mettler and Naomi Locke.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Fund. 

Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at the Open Bible Church in Midland, with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m.

Military graveside rites will be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Interment will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
