Merle Dawn Price

Merla Dawn Price was born April 4, 1949, in Sturgis, SD, to Merle and Addie Boyd (Howie) Weyer. Her childhood years were spent in Marcus where she attended rural school. She graduated in 1967 from Faith High School.

After graduation, she attended National College of Business in Rapid City. In 1969, she married her high school sweetheart, Alan Price, in Sturgis. After living in Denver for over a year, they made their home ranching in Red Owl.  Here, they welcomed two children to their family; a daughter, Launa, and a son, Chad. To many, Merla was known as Boo, a nickname she received as a young girl. Merla Dawn enjoyed her summers in her vegetable garden and yard. She said there was no greater feeling than having her pantry shelves full of produce ready for the winter months!  She was a great cook who always had a hearty meal for her family and anyone who stopped in. She also loved to be creative, whether it is with painted ceramics, oil painting, hand-made baby quilts for her grandchildren, or crocheting.  She most cherished the time spent with her family and was grateful to have them nearby. In 2014, they semi-retired to Whitewood.

Merla Dawn passed away peacefully on January 30, 2018, at Hospice of the Hills, Rapid City, SD.

Merla Dawn is survived by her daughter, Launa (Shane) Grubl, Red Owl; son, Chad (Jennifer) Price, Red Owl; sister, Mary Lee (Jesse) Marty, Spearfish; brother, Harley (Connie) Weyer, Sturgis; father and mother-in-law, Walt (Thora) Price, Belle Fourche; 5 grandchildren, Teigen and Trey Grubl, Brayden, Brigg and Brynlie Price; and numerous nieces and nephews.
