Funeral services for Dewey Hibner, age 75, of Newell, SD, were held Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Faith Legion Hall in Faith, SD. Calvin Chapman officiated with burial in the Chance Cemetery, south of Meadow, SD.
 
Dewey Neal Hibner was born September 14, 1942, to Duane and June (Hyland) Hibner at his grandmother’s house, located in Bison, SD. He passed away on November 29, 2017 at the Rapid City Hospice House after a long battle with cancer.
 
He was the first born of four children, siblings include, Lumeda, William and Geraldine.
 
Dewey started school at the Jones School south of Prairie City, SD. When the family moved to the ranch south of Bison, he finished grade school at Ada, always riding horse several miles to school, He completed his schooling at Bison High School where he graduated in 1962.
 
Dewey started working for various ranchers, and also helped to build the new road from Maurine to Mude Butte in the early 1960s. He settled into driving truck which he had loved from an early age. He drove for Lucky Grienvall, hauling a lot of the lumber that was used to build the Lemmon Sale Barn. Something that he always remembered was hauling bombs and explosives from Crawford, IL to Seattle, WA during the Vietnam War. There wasn’t much that he didn’t haul; livestock, produce, grain, you name it he hauled it.
 
Over the 50+ years of driving he logged for 10,000,000 miles. He owned and operated several other business’s over the years, one being a crop dusting business. He had several planes, both crop dusting and small two passenger planes that he used for checking cattle with his father. He operated a feed lot, a small grocery store in Vale, SD, a feed store in Newell, SD, an upholstery shop in Idaho and a motel in Nebraska.
 
He had one daughter, Janet, from his first marriage to Gloria Abelseth, after that he had several step-children, Jerry and Sherry Kearny, Regina and Tommi Van Tomme and Chad Donavan.
 
Thankful for being a part of his life are his daughter, Janet (Richard) Oliver; two grandsons, Tyrel (April) O’Bryan and Cody O’Bryan, Sherry Hocking, Regina Tobar, Tom Van Tomme, Chad Donavan; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Emma O’Bryan; two sisters, Lumeda (Raymond) Huber, Geraldine (John) Peck; sister-in-law, Ida Hibner; brother-in-law, Jerry (Leanne) Wells; nieces and nephews, Brian (Lita) Wells, Harry Hibner, Wanda (Dwayne) VanVleet, Roger (Berney) Huber, Richard Huber, Rodney (Wendy) Huber, Rhonda Huber, Randell Huber; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
 
Preceding him in death were his parents, June and Duane Hibner; one brother, William “Bill” Hibner and one step-son, Jerry Kearny.
