Wall Eagle Carter Elshere (#15) with the football and Camden Sawvell (#28) in the back ground at the rainy Oct. 22 football game in New Underwood.

Wall Eagles dominate New Underwood Tigers

The Wall Eagles would travel to New Underwood to take on the Tigers in the last regular season game. Both teams would need a win to advance to the SDHSAA play-offs. It was the Wall Eagles who convincingly won the battle and would advance to the play-offs while the Tigers would end their season. Both teams ended their regular season with a 3-5 record.

With the Eagles win, they would enter the play-offs as a wildcard team. The top three teams in each region would guarantee a spot in the play-offs. The next four highest power points would place four more teams in the play-offs. Wall is the last team that made it in!

Wall has won their last three games decisively! They are averaging 41 points a game and allowing 2.5. They will need to maintain this heading in to the play-offs. By moving to Region two the Eagles will face the top seed in that region, the Alcester-Hudson Cubs.  The Cubs have a 6-2 record on the season. They lost to Chester and Canistota.

The Eagles didn’t wait long to control the game. Wall would start the game on defense and continued what they had started two games prior. DOMINATION!!!  The front line of Cass Lytle, Jacob Linn, and Camden Sawvell dominated the line of scrimmage all night. Behind them are three aggressive linebackers Gabe Sandal, Raedon Anderson, and new comer Trey Elshere. Sandal is leading the Eagles in tackles this year and has a four tackle advantage over Anderson. The secondary has a talented trio of Rylee Schreiber, Allan McDonnell, and Carter Elshere. The Eagles defense only allowed three first downs in the entire game. All of these were later in the game. Not only did the defense dominate the Tiger offense, Lytle, Gabe Sandal and Anderson each had a fumble recovery. Allan McDonnell also jumped a Tiger pass to grab an interception.

Were they really that dominant?  YES!!  The Eagle defense faced 29 carries from the Tigers and only allowed seven yards rushing. They allowed five passing yards on two completions. At the end of the night, they only allowed 12 total yards. They also put the big goose egg on the scoreboard.

It wasn’t any better on the other side of the ball for the Tigers. The Wall offense dominated the Tigers and the ugly conditions. Rylee Schreiber and Allan McDonnell convinced everyone that the Eagles could still sweep in terrible conditions. Carter Elshere would dominate the middle. All this was because the men up front dominated the line-of-scrimmage. Cass Lytle, Camden Sawvell, Gabe Sandal, Cody Huether, and Jacob Linn took care of business! The Eagles rolled off 18 points in the first half.  They did the same in the second half. The Eagles would score 36 points on the night. They scored six touchdowns on the ground and didn’t score an extra point all night. They also fumbled three times in the redzone. Add those points and it was really a dominating game. Carter Elshere would dominate the middle with 153 yards and four touchdowns. Rylee Schreiber would take a sweep around the right end and dive in for another. Schreiber also finished with 119 yards on the ground. Raedon Anderson started the scoring on the night with a three yard plunge. Overall the Eagles had 318 yards of offense in the rain.

The Eagles finished with a 3-3 conference record. Their next game will be the first round of the play-offs at Alcester. First round is Tuesday.  Game time is 5:00 p.m. MST.
