Zane Lee Hoffman was born March 11, 1986, in Rapid City, SD, the son of Wallace and Carol (Voyles) Hoffman.

Zane grew up hunting, fishing, riding horses, and four-wheelers on the Hoffman Ranch at Pedro, SD. He attended Deep Creek School until the eighth grade, when he attended Wall High School, graduating in 2004.

Zane loved sports and was very active in AAU wrestling, earning several trips to the State AAU and winning state his final year. In the summer, he played baseball in Philip. While in Wall, he played football and wrestled, qualifying for the State B's in 2003. Also in that year, he traveled to Australia with the People to People organization.

After graduation from high school, Zane attended Mitchell Vo-Tech graduating in 2006 with an Electrical Degree. In June 2006, he moved to Colorado working as an electrician. After a few months in Colorado, he decided it wasn't for him, and moved back to the ranch and helped until taking a job in Rapid City as an electrician. He remained in Rapid City until June 2007, when he got a job in the oil fields. In April 2008, Zane left the oil fields to come home and run the ranch, due to family illness.

Zane was a fun loving person who always had a smile and time to visit. He loved to trail cattle and ride through the Cheyenne River breaks. Zane was much in demand at branding time. Zane was also very good with kids. It was not unusual to see Zane holding down a calf with a little kid on his lap and having the kid believe he was holding down the calf. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his parents, Wallace "Wally" and Carol (Voyles) Hoffman of Creighton; two brothers, Zeb Hoffman and his wife, Megan, of Creighton and Zack Hoffman of Wall; his paternal grandmother, Audrey Hoffman of Wall; his maternal grandmother, Mary Parsons and her husband, Dean, of Philip; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Zane was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Maurice Hoffman; his maternal grandfather, Forrest Voyles; and three uncles, George Hoffman, Chuck Salmon, and John Salmon.
