Wilma M. Brink

Wilma Margaret Brink, 92, died Thursday, December 24, 2009, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 28, at Grace Reformed Church in Corsica with burial following in the Harrison City Cemetery in Harrison.

Wilma Margaret Brink was born May 21, 1917, to Hubert and Lena (Verrips) Kleyne near Boyden, IA. She grew up and attended country school there. She enjoyed helping her father with the horses and farm work and learned to be a good cook and seamstress.

She met her future husband, Abe, when he came to Iowa to work as a farmhand. They were married June 2, 1936, in Boyden. A drought caused them to quit farming and move to California where Abe was employed by General Motors for one year. In 1938, they returned to Harrison, SD, and farmed for several years. They moved back to the family farm in Iowa where they farmed until 1952 when they bought their farm near Corsica, SD. They retired in 1973, moved to town and spent several winters in Texas, enjoyed traveling and friends.

Margaret's greatest joy in life was her family, friends, sewing for her family, playing cards, camping and music. She was a faithful member of Grace Reformed Church. She was a precious mom and grandma. The void she leaves will be great, but the memories she left will last forever.

She is survived by her six children, Donna Oliver and her husband, Don, Philip, SD; Larry Brink and his wife, Mary, of Huron, SD; Darrell Brink and his wife, Ann, Sioux Falls, SD; Sharon Menning and her husband, Virgil, Britton, SD; Merle Brink and his wife, Connie, Bismarck, ND; and Jan VanGenderen and her husband, Kevin, of Corsica; 19 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Margaret, Esther and Leona VerMeer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son, Merlin; four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

Koehn Bros. Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
