State Fire School honors Philip VFD
The Philip Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded the Outstanding Fire Service Award for 2005.
At the Annual State Fire School held June 9-11, and in front of over 700 attending firemen, representatives of the Keep South Dakota Green Association and the Rapid City Journal presented a plaque and a check for $150 to the Philip Fire Department. The plaque was created out of wood from the South Dakota Christmas tree that was displayed in Washington in 1997. The check has already been used by the Philip Fire Department to purchase portable lights for marking landing areas for the “life-flight” helicopter.
The Philip Volunteer Fire Department, one of many in the running for this honor, was nominated by the City of Philip on behalf of the community and citizens of Philip. This year’s fire school meeting was in Yankton, and next year’s will be in Brandon.
