Spc. Daniel Bartels
U.S. Army Specialist E-4 Daniel Bartels, age 22, with the 4th Squadron, 14th Calvary Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team of Fort Wainwright, Fairbanks Alaska died Tuesday, October 18, 2005, in Mosul, Iraq.
His funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. (CT) Thursday, Oct. 27, at Riverview United Methodist Church with Rev. Iva Laudermith and Rev. Mark Sargent officiating.
Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery at Huron with military rites.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kuhler Funeral Home. The family will be present at the funeral home from 5:00 to 9:00 Wednesday evening. The casket will not be open.
Dan was born on June 11, 1983, at Rapid City, SD. He grew up with his father and graduated from Huron High School in 2001. Dan played football while in high school and was active in the youth group at Riverview United Methodist Church. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2003.
On March 15, 2004, he married Lauren Mognet of Huron at the Church of The Open Bible in Huron. He was stationed at Fort Wainwright at Fairbanks, AK, and was deployed to Iraq in August of 2005.
Dan loved to hike with his brother and father, and hunt with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Doug, on June 17, 1999; two grandfathers, Charles Larson and Elvin Bartels.
Survivors include his wife, Lauren of Fort Wainwright, AK; his parents, Delvin Bartels of Philip, SD, and Deb and Howard Pearl of Huron; his brothers, Josh, and Damien of Philip; and sisters, Angie, and Brandy and Brittany of Philip; his grandparents, Gladys Bartels of Lead, Lois Larson of Iroquois, Paul and Phyllis Pearl of Dillsboro, IN; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
