Sixth annual Badlands Matched Bronc Riding event

The sixth annual Badlands Matched Bronc Ride was held in Kadoka, Friday, August 19.

There were 20 cowboys competing in the first round of action. Nine made their eight-second rides to move on to the second round. Ryan Kruse, Interior, drew back for a spot in the second round. Five bronc riders made the whistle and advanced to the short go.

1st round

1st - Jamie Willert, Kadoka - 75 points on Broken Arrow Rodeo's #402 Home Grown

2nd - Lane Stirling, Nisland - 73 points on Broken Arrow Rodeo's #38 Pistol Pete

3rd/4th - Chet Smith, Rapid City - 72 points on Morrison Bucking Horses' #846 Remington

3rd/4th - Aaron Brewer, Fort Pierre - 72 points on Morrison Bucking Horses' Crazy Woman With Many Names

2nd round

1st/2nd - Wyatt Kammerer, Philip - 77 points on Morrison Bucking Horses' #213 Preacher's Wife

1st/2nd - Zach West, Philip - 77 points on Broken Arrow Rodeo's #T34 Head Banger

3rd - Smith, Rapid City - 76 points on Morrison Bucking Horses' #322 Angel Wings

4th - Willert, Kadoka - 71 points on Morrison Bucking Horses' #814 Blueberry Buckle

Short round

West, Philip - 85 points on Broken Arrow Rodeo's #59 Wilson

"That horse has been around an aweful long time," said West of the bucking bronc they call Wilson. "They brought him out of retirement and he is really good." West said that the horse, when a colt, used to be just barely able to look over the fence, similar to the Wilson character on the television series "Home Improvement."

Wild Ride

Tate Longbrake, Dupree - 84 points on Morrison Bucking Horses' #414 High Pockets

The high point horse of the event was Morrison Bucking Horses' #335 Bootlicker.
