Shirley Anderson

Shirley Anderson, age 94 of Kadoka, South Dakota , died October 6, 2009, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Shirley J. Buum was born March 1, 1915, at White River, South Dakota, the daughter of Christian and Sophia (Wegner) Buum. She grew up and received her education in White River. Shirley married Clifford Larson in 1943, and to this union three children were born. They made their home in Wood, South Dakota.

Shirley married Alfred G. Anderson in 1965. They resided in Wood, Rapid City and Kadoka. They enjoyed restoring antique furniture until their retirement. Shirley was involved for many years in the Ladies Circle and the Quilting group of Concordia Lutheran Church. She is fondly remembered for her great cooking, baking, letter writing and her gentle kindness and love for her children and grandchildren.

Her husband Al preceded her in death on November 14, 1983. She continued to reside at the Gateway Apartments in Kadoka, before moving to Rapid City with her son Clarence. In 2004, she moved into the Kadoka Care Center where she has since resided.

Grateful for having shared her life include two daughters Donna Burdick of Arlington, Washington, Peggy Good Shield (Cecil Long) of Flandreau South Dakota; her son Clarence Larson (Susan) of Rapid City; her grandchildren Steve Schmidt of Marysville, WA, Gary and Matt Schmidt of Coos Bay, OR, Jennifer, Kendra and Kristin Larson of Rapid City, JP Good Shield of Sioux Falls, SD, Chuck Good Shield of Pierre, SD Cheryl Good Shield of Mission, SD, Brent Good Shield of Salt Lake City, UT and Jamie Long of Oklahoma. She is also survived by several great and great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Al, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister Gertrude Woodard of Long Valley/Kadoka, SD and two brothers Joe Buum of White River, SD, Orin Buum of Rapid City, SD and her granddaughter Donna Mae Good Shield also of Rapid City, SD.

Visitation will be held one hour preceding the services at the church.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10th, at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Kadoka, with Pastor Art Weitschat officiating.

Interment will be held 2:15 p.m. CDT at the White River Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Meals on Wheels Program in Rapid City. Memorials may be sent to: Clarence Larson, 1603 N. 7th St., Rapid City, SD 57701.
