Scotties second at Black Hills Invitational Golf Tourney

The Philip boys' golf team traveled to Hart Ranch south of Rapid City to compete in the Monday, May 10, Black Hills Invitational Golf Tournament.

"The Black Hills Invite was held at the Hart Ranch golf course Monday with the meet being called after nine holes due to rain. It was the first meet without wind, but a steady downpour from start to finish. At times clubs were flying farther than the golf shots. A tough day of golfing! We are hoping for some nice weather Friday for the meet at Boulder Canyon," said Philip golf coach Doug Hauk.

Because of rain, this tournament, often referred to as the pre-region tourney, was shortened to only nine holes. The Philip team took second place with a day's total three-player score of 159. Wall earned the first place spot with a score of 145. Newell went home with third place and a score of 161. Lemmon brought up fourth place with a 169 score. Other represented schools were Jones County, Bison, New Underwood, White River, Hill City and Takini.

The tournament's individual title went to Wall's Darick Eisenbraun, who shot a nine-hole score of 40. Six strokes back, Lemmon's Josh Sackman took second place with a 46. Philip's Caleb Clements shot a 47 to tie for third place with Wall's Lane Hustead.

The other Philip team members were lead by Tristen Rush, who played 52 for seventh place. Richie Baye ended up in 15th place with a score of 57. Colton Nickelson shot a 60 to earn the 22nd spot. Devon Ehlers finished the rained out day in 28th place with a score of 65.

The Philip girls did not participate in this tournament.

The next golf meet for the Philip Scotties will be Friday, May 14, at the Boulder Canyon Golf Course. The Region Golf Tournament is to start at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 17, at the Hart Ranch. The State Golf Tournament will be in Aberdeen May 24 and 25.
