"We had a great day," said head coach Jerry Rhodes of the Philip Scotties at the Mountain West Invitational track and field meet at Lead's Mountain Top Athletic Facility on Saturday, May 2.

Assistant coach Ralph Kroetch said, "The athletes' times are really starting to blossom. Even at high elevation, our kids still made great times, bettering their times despite the conditions, so to speak." Rhodes said, "Overall, its been a real good year so far."

Kroetch said, "We didn't even get to practice outside until just recently. The athletes enthusiastically want to work hard. Rhodes has a deal of when each athlete 'raises the bar' by beating their personal best, Rhodes will reward them with a candy bar. He's going to go broke giving out bars."

The Philip Lady Scotties tied for fourth place with the Spearfish Spartans with 55 points each. The Kadoka Kougars earned 77 points for first place and the Belle Fourche Broncs got 64 for second place. St. Thomas More took third with 56 points. Lead-Deadwood took sixth with 51.

For the boys' teams, Spearfish took first place with 104 points and Lead/Deadwood earned second place with 87 points. Philip boys' took fourth place with 66 points.
