Scotties make it to semi-final round
The Scotties first overwhelmed Timber Lake. Then, Philip played the Harding County Ranchers in Buffalo on November 1, beating them 7-0. The Scotties will advance to the semi-final round on Saturday, November 6, at Avon. Game time is 4:00 p.m. MT.
Philip Scotties vs. Timber Lake
The Philip Scotties closed out the Timber Lake football team 45-0 on Tuesday, October 26 in the first round of play-off action.
The first quarter was a standstill by both teams. The second quarter, though, was broken wide open with four touchdowns by the Scotties. Philip’s passing game was exact, with Dana Kerns connecting seven out of nine times for a total passing gain of 181 yards for the Scotties.
Kerns passed 27 yards to Billy Seager for the first points on the scoreboard. The successful kick by Ty Fees made the score 7-0. Kerns launched another pass for 51 yards to Brit Miller for the second touchdown. The kick failed. Seager caught a 15 yard pass for the third touchdown. The two point conversion failed. Austin Bowen recovered a fumble and carried it for 25 yards to make the fourth touchdown. Ty Fees made the kick and the first half ended at 26-19.
The second half was short. Miller ran the last seven yards to the goal line. The kick attempt failed. Seager caught another pass from Kerns, this one for 19 yards and a touchdown. Fees kicked to earn the extra point. Bowen caught a 23 yard pass from Kerns to end the game when the mercy rule was applied.
Miller carried 12 times for 50 yards; Fees - 8 for 35; Kerns - 6 for 22; Bo Slovek - 3 for 5; Nathan O’Dea - 2 for 2 yards.
The tackling was spread out; Fees - 9; John Hart - 6; Miller - 5; Slovek - 5; Bowen - 4; O’Dea 3; Zane Fees - 3.
The game was costly with penalties. Philip lost 75 yards because of infractions. Timber Lake lost 95 yards.
The Philip Scotties advanced to the second round in the play-offs, where they took on Harding County.

The Philip football team moves on to the semi-finals after ousting the Harding County Ranchers on November 1.
The 7-0 win was on the Ranchers’ cold and wet home field.
The Ranchers held the Scotties to only one touchdown. That came in the second quarter when Brit Miller ran in six yards to score. The extra-point attempt was good.
The Scotties had been trounced 38-7 by the Ranchers earlier in the season. Last year, Harding County pummeled Philip 27-0 in the Region 4 championship game.
Ty Fees rushed 15 times for a total of 47 yards. Dana Kerns rushed 10 times for a total of 42 yards. Miller ran 7 times for 17 yards total.

If the Philip Scotties win at Avon on Saturday, November 6, they will then play on november 13 in the Dakota Dome at Vermillion for the championship.
