The Philip Scotties earned their way to the third round of the football playoffs held in Avon Saturday, November 6.

For this year, anyway, that was as far as they were to go. The Philip Scotties were stopped by Avon 42-8.

The first three quarters of not scoring did not take all the fight out of Philip. In the fourth quarter, Dana Kerns ran in the last five yards to score the Scotties’ only touchdown. Kerns passed to Billy Seager for the two point conversion.

Philip had a total of 77 rushing yards. Ty Fees had 12 carries for 52 of those yards. Kerns completed nine out of 19 passes for the 125 passing yards earned by Philip. Seager caught five of those for 98 yards.

Philip had seven first downs, while Avon had 15. Avon had two touchdowns in each of the first two quarters. Philip held them scoreless in the third quarter. Avon again scored twice in the last quarter.

Tackling for the Scotties was led by Bo Slovek with 21; Nathan O’Dea had 11; Fees - 7; Branden Moos - 5; Michael Westerberg - 5; and Casey Elshere - 5.

The Philip Scotties will lose eight seniors before the next football season, but some talent is coming up through the ranks.
