Scotties bury Tigers, 49-0
The Philip Scotties defeated the New Underwood Tigers 49-0 during the Friday, October 14, football game at New Underwood.
The first quarter saw most of the scoring. Bo Slovek ran in an 18 yard touchdown. The extra point attempt failed. Casey Cuny returned a Tiger punt for 54 yards and a second Scottie touchdown. Cuny ran in the conversion. Almost immediately, Cuny then rushed the ball in the remaining two yards for another touchdown. Ralph Simons kicked in the extra point. Slovek finished a 13 yard pass play for yet another touchdown. Simons kicked in the extra point.
Nick Heeb intercepted a Tiger pass for a 52 yard touchdown. The extra point attempt failed. JD Livermont carried in a 14 yard touchdown. The extra point attempt failed.
Alex Moos kicked a field goal to bring the score to 43-0. He then put the Tigers’ misery to an end by recovering a fumbled New Underwood ball in the Scottie end zone. The game ended in the third quarter due to the 45-point mercy rule.
The Scotties successfully passed two out of four times for a total of 18 yards. Dana Kerns passed one to Slovek for a gain of 13 yards, and Allen Hauk passed one to Lincoln Smith for 15 yards. Heeb intercepted a Tiger pass for a 52 yard touchdown. Simons also intercepted a Tiger throw for a one yard return.
Philip gained 300 yards through rushing. The statistical leaders were Kerns with five carries for 73 yards; Cuny - 5 carries for 56; Slovek - 4 for 35.
Moos fired eight kickoffs for 280 yards. The Scotties earned seven first downs.
Defense was lead by Moos with 2 solos and 4 assists; Nathan O’Dea and Brady Grenz - 1 solo and 4 assists each; Slovek - 4 solos; Kevin Schulz - 2 solos and 3 assists.
The next scheduled football game for the Philip Scotties will be a home game at 7:00 p.m. against the Wall Eagles on Thursday, October 20. The fourth, fifth, and sixth grade football team will have a scrimmage during half-time.
The first round of the high school football playoffs will be Tuesday, October 25.
