Scottie boys win Western Great Plains Golf Tourney

The Philip Scotties hosted the Western Great Plains Conference Golf Tournament on Friday, May 8, at the Lake Waggoner Golf Course.

The Philip boys' team won the meet with a total score of 133. Wall took second place with a score of 148. White River claimed the third place spot with 153 and Lyman took fourth with 161. Other schools represented included Bennett County, Jones County, Kadoka and Rapid City Christian.

Tremendous wind took its toll on the scores of inexperienced players not making necessary adjustments in their play. As the morning progressed, rain started to further hinder play. The anticipated 18-hole tournament was pared back to just nine holes.

Individually, the medalist boys' player was Philip's Caleb Clements with a total score of 41. Teammates Colton Nickelson and Devon Ehlers both scored 46 to earn the fifth and sixth place spots, respectively. The tie-breaker hole was number three, the most difficult hole on the course. Jordan Hauk shot a 54 to claim 10th place. Gavin Snook ended his day with a 58 and Wyatt Johnson finished with a 69.

The other top five finishers were Wall's Darick Eisenbraun with a 42, Jones County's Carson Moore with a 45 and White River's Thomas Cameron with a 46.

In the girl's division, Philip's Tara Ravellette easily led the field with a day's total of 43. Second place finisher was Wall's Autumn Schulz with a 54. For third place, Wall's Shayla Johnson beat out two others in a three-way tied score of 57. Bennett County's Cara Kratovil and Philip's Abby Fitzgerald claimed fourth and fifth place, respectively.
