Scottie boys take season's first golf tournament
The Philip high school golfers competed in their first tournament of the season on Tuesday, April 10. First place at the Meadowbrook Invitational in Rapid City went to the Scottie boys.
Cool temperatures of mid-to-high 40s and a steady wind created extra challenges for the boys' and girls' teams.
Philip's Allen Hauk scored a 90 to take the second place individual medalist honors, behind Wall's Kyle Barber who shot an 87 to claim the top spot. Sam Mendoza of Takini took third place with a 91. Bison's Jeffrey Johnson claimed fourth place with 91 strokes. Jordan Smith of Philip filled the fifth place spot with a score of 92. Other Scottie players were Caleb Clements with a 93 and Koby Longbrake with a 98.
The boys' division team scores were Philip - 275, Wall - 281, Bennett County - 306 and Newell - 321.
In the girls' division, Philip's Tara Ravellette was given second place after losing a scorecard playoff with Jordan Trohkimoinen of Newell. Both girls ended the day with a 101 score. Emily Chapman of Bison finished in third place with a score of 102. Laura Anderson of Wall took fourth place with 106, and Abby Fitzgerald of Philip claimed fifth place with a final score of 109 strokes.
