Scottie boys fall in last three seconds 50-51

Philip lead most of the game. though, with 30 seconds remaining, the score was somehow tied 50-50. The Scotties had possession, only to have the Eagles steal the ball and call a timeout. After regrouping, the Wall team headed down court and one of their players was fouled. With three seconds left in the game, the Eagle player made one of his two free throw shots. Philip failed at a desperate half-court shot as the seconds ran out.

The Eagles went 10 for 15 from the line over the final eight minutes.

Wall head coach Mark Ammann said, "We outscored them 14-5 at the free-throw line (for the game), and that was big. We also out-rebounded them (37-24). Our team just kept coming back and made free throws in the fourth quarter when we needed to make them."

Philip head coach Jordon Kjerstad said, "It was a tough, first game; a heartbreaker. We made a lot of mistakes; threw the ball away. Even with the rooky-like mistakes, the were working hard. We can learn from it and build from it.

"The next game is against Stanley County. They have some size and they are good athletics all year around. It could be a tough game, but we'll be ready," said Kjerstad.

Philip scorers: Casey Elshere - 13 (1 of 4 free throws), Nathan O'Dea - 12 (3 of 10 f.t.), Jake Mathews - 9, Allen Hauk (1 of 2 f.t.) and Alex Moos - 5 each, James Williamson - 4, Slate Evans - 2.

The Scotties made 5 out of 21 freethrow attempts (24%), while Wall made 14 of 31 (45%).

Field goal percentages: Philip - 21 of 53 (40%), Wall - 17 of 57 (30%).

Three point goals: Philip - 5; Mathews - 3, O'Dea and Moos - 1 each. Wall - 3.

The junior varsity game also went to the Wall Eagles - 48-25.
