Scottie boys fall to Bennett Co. 59-64

The away game on Tuesday, January 26, was a loss for the Philip Scottie boys' basketball team and a win for the Bennett County Warriors. The final score was 59-64.

Philip played hard, ending the first quarter only two field goals behind their opponents. By half-time, the Scotties had taken the lead by a single basket. Before the fourth quarter, that lead was increased by another basket.

The final quarter saw a disappointing turn-around for Philip. Bennett County rallied and succeeded in a defense-based come back that ended the game with them holding a five point lead.

"Even though we controlled our turnovers, we gave up too many points," said Head Coach Mike Baer. "We gave up too many second chance points. Bennett County never let us get the tempo up to the speed we like. We had our chances and missed some shots at the end. We let this one slip away. Now that makes the rest of them that much mor important."

"We actually cut down on our tunovers. We missed Jordan Hauk on the boards. He's out with an achilles tendon injury. Down the stretch we played way too passively on offense, and had untimely turnovers. We still had some looks at the basket within the last 30 seconds, but couldn't get anything to fall. It was a big game for us in the fact that they are an "A" school and beating them would have given us bonus points for district seeding, but now this makes the rest of our games that much more important," said Baer.
