School board ends the calendar year

The Haakon School District 27-1 Board of Education held its last meeting of the year Monday, December 20.
A long list was approved of volunteer coaches for the winter sports. These people include many former students who might come in during their college breaks to help with high school practices. Paulette Ramsey has been officially approved as the assistant girls' basketball coach.
The financial report showed that claims payable December 20 came to at grand total of $191,957.54. This does not include the salaries and wages of the districts' employees. Substitute wages for the month of November came to a total of $1,850 for a total of 26.6 days. Hourly wages came to a total of $22,053.33 for a total of 1,992.5 hours.
The 2011 Philip High School graduation has been set for Sunday, May 15, 2011.
The board cast its ballot for a member election for the Association of School Boards of South Dakota. Sheryl Kirkeby, Rapid City, received the Haakon School District vote for her becoming a member of the Western Region Board of Directors.
The board went into executive session concerning personnel and student issues. After the session, no action was taken.
In his high school principal's report, Jeff Rieckman noted that semester tests will be administered December 21 and 22, just before Christmas break. The last day of the first semester will be Thursday, January 6. Counselor Pamela DeJong will hold a financial aid meeting for seniors and their parents January 24, beginning at 6:00 p.m. A meeting for parents of current eighth graders will be held January 25 to cover their student's academic path through high school.
In his superintendent's report, Keven Morehart said that district employee evaluations have been started. He complimented the Milesville School Christmas program, saying that it was tremendous. The fourth through sixth grade girls' basketball season is wrapping up, while the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) wrestling season will begin January 4.
The next scheduled meeting for the board of education will be at 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2011.
