Roger D. Neiffer

Roger Dale Neiffer, age 72, of Kadoka, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2007, with his life partner, Pat, and his children at his side at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip, SD.

Services were held Wednesday, March 14, at the Kadoka City Auditorium, with Father Bryan Sorensen officiating.

Music was provided by Boyd Porch, Carl Bauman and John Kaiser. Ushers were Rick Wilmarth and Paul Briggs. Pallbearers were Bob and Bill Bauman, Dan Smiley, Jerry Sharp, John Madsen and Verne Richardson. Honorary pallbearers Rich Hildebrand, Fritz Arment, Bob Holcomb, Allen Allard, Delbert Coller and Wayne Hamer.

Interment will follow at the Long Valley Community Cemetery.

Roger Neiffer was born April 30, 1934 on the plains of Long Valley, SD, the fourth of seven children born to Jake and Viola (Kursave) Neiffer. He grew up and received his elementary education in Long Valley, then attended Bennett County High School in Martin. After his education, Roger worked for Donald Handcock for 21 years as a ranch-hand, farm-hand and mechanic.

He married Audrey Mansfield on November 13, 1952, and to this union were born four children: Monty, Laurel, Karen and Weston. In 1986, Roger moved to Kadoka and in July 1988 he met his life-partner, Pat Kozlik. They made their home in Kadoka where Roger worked with Rich Hildebrand in the concrete business. Roger worked for Merle Stilwell for a time and then again with Hildebrand Construction until April 2006, when health reasons forced him to retire.

Roger enjoyed playing his guitar and singing, working, riding and roping, hunting, fishing, playing pool, bowling, rock hunting and coffeeing.

He was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Long Valley, Long Valley Gun Club, Roping Club, Community Club and Fire Department. Roger was also a member of the Kadoka Volunteer Fire Department, Nursing Home Association and Trap Shoot Club.

Survivors include his life partner, Pat, of Kadoka and her daughter, Tammy (Kozlick) and Jerry Messick of Herrington, DE; two sons, Monty Neiffer and Deb of Valentine, NE; Weston Neiffer and Jodi of Spearfish; and two daughters, Laurel Hildebrand and friend, Rusty, of Kadoka and Karen Gibson and husband, Ray, of Philip; 10 grandchildren: Shelly (Neiffer) Rolfe and Matt of Kearney, NE, Miles Neiffer and friend, Jenny of Tampa, FL, Heath Hildebrand and friend, Amara, of Denver, CO, Heidi (Hildebrand) Coller and Sauntee of Kadoka, Haven Hildebrand and friend Lindsey of Wall, Hannah (Gibson) Griffin and Matt of Denver, CO, RaeAnn (Gibson) Snyder and JR of Philip, Emery Quinn Gibson of Philip, Elle and Charlie Ann Neiffer of Spearfish, and Rhianna Messick of Herrington, DE; nine great-grandchildren: Jerica, Jadyn and Jyntre Coller of Kadoka, Keelee, Kaia, and Karsyn Griffin of Denver, and Jaisa, Parker and Rainee Snyder of Philip; one brother, Hiram Neiffer of Hill City; two sisters, Mardella Preble and Elaine Nelson of Rapid City; a number of neices and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by a son in infancy; a great-granddaughter, Jaylee Dae Coller; his parents; and three brothers, Gene, Dean and Edward Neiffer.
