Richard "R.W." Sichterman

Richard "R.W." Sichterman, 95, Rapid City, passed away February 9, 2011, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

R.W. was born January 29, 1916, in Philip, S.D., to Garrit and Jane (White) Sichterman. He grew up in the Philip area and attended school until his graduation in 1934. Joining the Civilian Conservation Corps that same year, he worked on Sheridan Lake and Major Lake. He moved to Rapid City, working at several jobs.

R.W. owned Gateway Second Hand Store, managed Warne Chemical and was service manager at Rapid Motors. He married Anna Warn on January 16, 1941, and to this union four children were born.

He loved to fly his airplane, hunt, fish, camp and play rook with family and friends. In September 1989, he married Ruth Mintzlaff and enjoyed working on the ranch with Ruth and her three sons.

R.W. was a charter member of Bethel Assembly of God, served as a board member, was a Sunday school teacher, and ministered in music.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Ruth Sichterman of Rapid City; two sons, Donald (Marilee) Sichterman of Parker, Colo., and Richard (Loa) Sichterman of Rapid City; two daughters, Aleta (David) Olson of Rapid City, and Sharon (Douglas) Eddy of Palmer Lake, Colo.; three step-sons, Larry Mintzlaff of Rapid City, Bill Mintzlaff and friend, Marjie Derby of Rapid City, and Dan (Kellie) Mintzlaff of Richmond, Mo.; one sister, Grace Becker of Freeport, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandson; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann; his parents; two brothers and four sisters; and one daughter-in-law.

Services were held Monday, February 14, at Bethel Assembly of God Church in Rapid City with the Rev. Jim Sorum and the Rev. Peter Dahlberg officiating.

Interment was at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City.

A memorial to the building fund at Bethel Assembly of God Church has been established.
