Richard L. Ravellette

Richard L. Ravellette, 67, Rapid City, died at the Rapid City Regional Hospital, on Friday, Nov. 5, 2004.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home, with a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, at Blessed Sacrament Church, with Rev. Kevin Achbach and Rev. Thomas Moore as con-celebrants. Pallbearers will be Ron and Don Ravellette, Dan Fosness, Don Haynes, Bob Quinn and Pete Dowse.

Interment with military honors provided by the TREA Honor Guard will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.

Richard was born May 22, 1937, in Vincennes, Indiana to Joseph and Elsie (Meeks) Ravellette. As a young boy, he moved to Sisseton, and then to Watertown, where he attended school. While in high school he was active in basketball and track. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy at the end of the Korean War. During his 22 years of service to his country in the U.S. Navy, he served in the Vietnam War and was stationed throughout the world. While stationed in the country of Malta, Europe he met Elizabeth Moore. They were married two years later in 1959. After Richard retired from the Navy, he pursued a career as a printer, retiring in 1998 to become a full-time grandpa.

Richard was involved in Boy Scouting as a leader, The Retired Enlisted Association and The Discovery Motorcoach Association. His hobbies included gardening and snowmobiling, landscaping his home, and touring with Liz in his RV. Spending time with his children and their families was his favorite pastime.

Richard dedicated his life to his family. He was happiest when he was watching a grandchild at one of their many activities, or just going for a drive through the Black Hills.

Richard will be remembered deep in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life, especially his family.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ravellette, Rapid City; two sons, Robert L. Ravellette, of Colorado Springs, CO, and Timothy J. Ravellette and his wife, Chery, of Traverse City, MI; two daughters, Theresa Scharn and her husband, Mark, of Rapid City and Pauline Bendickson and her husband, Kieth, of Forest Grove, OR; two brothers, Sam Ravellette and his wife, Ruth, of Dallas, TX, and Glenn Ravellette of Hemet, CA; two sisters-in-law, Belle Ravellette of Philip, SD, and Lucy Ravellette of San Diego, CA; nine grandchildren, Sarah, Melissa and Erik Bendickson, Nicole, Renee and Michelle Ravellette and Michael, Matthew and Jennifer Scharn; and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lester; and two sisters, Eleanor and Esther.
