Richard “Dick” Pinney, age 70, of Kadoka, S.D., died Sunday, December 15, 2013, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Richard Frank “Dick” Pinney was born May 20, 1943, in Bennett County, the son of James and Mildred (Morsett) Pinney. He grew up in the old Washabaugh and Jackson counties, receiving his education at the Sand Hills Rural School, Wanblee, before finishing his education in Kadoka.
At the age of 17, he joined the Army National Guard.
Dick was united in marriage Margrette “Mickey” Meyers in Pierre on February 2, 1971, and to this union were born twins, Michael and Michelle. They made their home in the Jackson County area.
Dick spent his life working on various ranches in the Jackson County area. Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding, playing cribbage, and carving wood. Dick was a jokester, always looking for the opportune time to play a trick on someone.
Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Miller and her husband, Dan, of Marcus, Iowa; four grandchildren; his special friend, Renabelle Standing Bear of Wanblee; one brother, Terrance “Terry” Pinney and his wife, Karen, of Philip; one sister, Verda Anderson of Kadoka; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his son, Michael Pinney, as a child; his parents, James P. and Mildred H. (Morsett) Pinney; and four sisters, Joan Carpenter, Fern Tuttle, Mae Leikamand Barbara Eisenbraun.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 19, at the Eagle Nest Life Center in Wanblee, with Pastor Gus Craven officiating.
Music will be provided by Susan Davidson, vocalist.
Pallbearers are Charlie Carlson, Leon Little Killer, Roger Amiotte, Wayne Randall, Sterling Riggins and John Eisenbraun.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the American Lung Association.
Arrangements are with the Rush Funeral Chapel of Kadoka.
