The mudbog competition sponsored by the Midland Volunteer Fire Department was held on July 28th.

According to Fire Chief Reuben Vollmer, Jr., the audience included over 300 people and 40 to 50 volunteers helped run the races and and the concessions.

The races included a total of 67 entries among six different classes. Between the races were two bowling ball dives, one for youngsters and one for the ladies.

Vollmer reported that the four-month-long selling of raffle tickets for an 18-foot car trailer "was a worthwhile fundraiser" and that the lucky recipient was Kirby Schofield of Midland.

Making a three category sweep, O'Rourke beat out 11 other racers in the small block modified division for first place. Duane Ryan, Sr. earned second place and Todd O'Connor took third.
