Relay For Life is September 16

The fourth annual Quad County Relay For Life event is scheduled for Friday, September 15. The next planning meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, in the Senechal lobby in Philip.

The meeting's main purpose is to update participants on the planned activities. All relay teams, or at least their representative, should attend. Any money already collected by current teams should be turned in at this meeting. Encouragement is given for more teams to be created from each and all involved communities. At present, there are approximately 20 teams from the communities of Philip, Kadoka, Murdo and Wall.

Guest speakers during the relay will be Jody Bielmaier and Beth Smith. The three emcees for the relay will be D.J. Rush, Doug Hauk and Don Ravellette. A large range of scheduled entertainment will fill the night.

This year's relay will be dedicated to Jill Eckert, as well as all the individuals who have fought against cancer - those who have won and those who have not. Eckert was from the Midland/Kadoka area who fought and lost her battle to cancer. A generous memorial is being dedicated in her name to this year's Quad County Relay For Life.

Though the residents of the Murdo and Kadoka areas have worked hard on their recent centennial celebrations, they are willing to also work hard for the Relay For Life effort. Philip will be the host site for this year's rotation of the annual relay.

Marcia West reports that the fundraising effort has had nothing but acceptances from corporate sponsors. The names of all such sponsors - whether they are gold, silver or bronze level donations - will be printed on this year's relay T-shirts.
