Region 6B Golf Tournament, two Philip High School players on to state May 16
The 2011 Region 6B Golf Tournament was held at Hart Ranch Golf Course, Monday, May 16.
The Philip team finished the day in fifth place with a score of 324, not qualifying as a team to go on to the state tournament. Two Philip golfers did earn individual advancement to the Monday and Tuesday, May 23 and 24, state tournament at the Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford.
Tristen Rush finished in third place with a day's total of 46+48=94. Tate DeJong shot a 49+55=104 to earn ninth place.
The other two Philip players were Trey DeJong, who shot a 69+57=126 for 32nd place, and Wyatt Johnson, who shot a 59+68=127 for 33rd place.
"Regional golf was held at Hart Ranch and the wind make for a tough day of golf, wind at times blew golf balls off of the greens," said Philip coach Doug Hauk. "The kids shot great rounds for as tough as the conditions were. It was especially tough on the younger less experienced golfers. The boys' regional had 15 boys qualify for state golf in Hartford on May 23 and 24. Philip had two golfers qualify. Tristen Rush finished third and Tate DeJong qualified finishing ninth at regions."
Having competed with the other golfers and with the wind, the top four teams going on to state are Newell with a total score of 285, White River with a total of 305, Wall with 307 and Lemmon with 313.
