Rasma Lielmane violin concert in Philip
The world-renowned violinist Rasma Lielmane will be performing a concert in Philip. The concert will be open to the public and will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14.
The sponsor for the event is the First National Bank of Philip. This will be the third concert performed in Philip by Lielmane. The piano accompanist will be Gints Berzins, a Latvian musician renowned in his own right. The two have a busy concert schedule; in Sturgis on the 13th, Philip the 14th, Minneapolis the 16th, Chicago the 17th .... The main category of music will be chamber music.
Lielmane is a freelance member and concert soloist at the Mexican National Fine Arts Institute, and her concert activities benefit from the annual grant given by the South Dakota Council of Arts.
She has studied at the Emils Darzins Special Music School, the Latvian State Conservatory of Music, and at the Piotr Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. She has worked as a soloist at the Latvian Philharmonic Society, as a teacher at the Latvian State Conservatory, and as a professor at the Mexican National Conservatory. She has been a regular guest at concert halls in Europe, North American, South America, Africa, the Far East, and Australia; deserving the highest appraisals from reviewers.
Lielmane has won recognition at seven international competitions. Among her trophies are the first prize at the International violin competition in Sofia, the second prize at the violin competition in Barcelona, laurels at the de Vianna Motta in Lisbon, Flesch competition in London, Paganini violin competition in Genoa, and in Montreal.
Lielmane can often be heard from the British Broadcasting Company (BBC), and her performances are readily recorded by EMI, Capitol and Angel records.
