Ranchers Workshop set for January
The 2009 annual Ranchers' Workshop is set for January 14 at the White River Events Center in White River.
The workshop begins with registration at 9:00 a.m. After a welcome presentation at 9:45 a.m., a series of discussions will make up the workshop.
Brad Young, a rancher from Wausa, NE, will present information on low-cost grazing concepts.
Dr. John Usera of the Chiesman Center for Democracy in Rapid City will discuss family stress and anxiety.
Abby Stiegelmeier, who was named the 2008 South Dakota Society of Range Management high school youth forum winner, will present her speech on the importance of plant diversity.
Extension Marketing and Farm Business Management Educator Heather Gessner will discuss input decisions for your cow herd.
Extension Beef Specialist Ken Olson will present information on mineral programs for grazing animals.
The workshop ends at 3:15 p.m. and includes a lunch served compliments of Fort Dodge Animal Health.
The conservation districts of Mellette and Todd counties, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the USDA Mellette-Todd County Farm Service Agency, the South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service, and the South Central Resource Conservation and Development Council are coordinating the event.
