Public review for Midland school reorganization plan

The Board of Education of Midland School District 27-2 has unanimously approved the Reorganization Plan with Kadoka School District 35-1. The Kadoka Board of Education has also approved the plan.

Public meetings to review the plan with patrons are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, in Kadoka and for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, in Midland.

The reorganization plan will face public vote this summer on a date established by the Secretary of Education. If approved, it will take effect July 1, 2007.

For the 2006-07 school year, Midland has contracted for the Kadoka High School to teach the Midland High School students.

Midland School Board approval of the Reorganization Plan came during a special noon-hour meeting held Thursday, July 6. Present were the Midland School Board, Superintendent Mary Austad, Business Manager Debbie Trapp, and audience member Kory Bierle.

Austad is also the Superintendent for the Kadoka School District. The new Midland elementary principal, Roger Jensen, is the Kadoka elementary principal. Debra Willert, special education director for Kadoka, is also the new special education director for Midland.

Scheduled monthly board meetings of the Midland School District 27-1 are at 8:00 p.m. on the second Monday of each month.
