Public part of School Board meeting brief
The board approved continued membership in the South Dakota High School Athletic Association.
The board again disapproved joining the South Dakota Coalition of Schools in its lawsuit against the state concerning the state's funding methods of schools.
The track coach roster is complete, now that Ralph Kroetch has been formally approved as an assistant coach.
Notification of intent to not hire any instructors for the next school year, if there are any, must be completed before April 15. Contracts for all instructors not notified will be let out after the next school board meeting.
"It looks good for a near-balanced budget for next year. It's safe to say there will be no need for an opt-out for next year," reported board member Bill Slovek. "Next year's proposed $33,000 increase overall is not too bad." The increase would include cost of living, teacher yearly and step raises and the increasing cost of supplies and equipment.
Prom will be Saturday, March 24. A new aspect this year will be that the grand march will start the evening, with the banquet and dancing to follow.
Along with track and golf meets, upcoming events include:
State Student Council meeting March 25-27 in Pierre.

Band trip to Minneapolis March 29 to April 1.
