Plans for new county library move forward

Plans are being made for a new building to house the Haakon County Public Library.

The Haakon County Public Library Board and Friends of the Library have been busy the last few months implementing the plans for a new library building.

Plans call for the library to be located on the south side of the Haakon County Courthouse. The preliminary plans call for the buildings to be connected by a walkway that will house restroom facilities for the two buildings.

Members of the two groups attended a capital campaign seminar Monday, September 26 in Pierre at the Ramkota River Center. Those attending were library board members Annie Brunskill and Shirley Kangas, Librarian Alison Kattlemann, Friends of the Library members, Pastor Mark Ford, Britni Ross and Nancy Haigh.

The library board is pursuing possible grants. Part of this pro-cess is a community meeting. The library board plans to have the meeting in early November. Watch the Pioneer Review for updates on our new library.
