Philip young wrestlers compete at the AAU state tournament
The Philip area was represented well by its AAU wrestlers who competed in the state tournament on March 24 to 25 at the Rapid City Civic Center.
Out of the growing number of area AAU members, seven local athletes had earned the right to go on to the state meet. Coaches Keven Morehart, Joe Carley and Randy Johnson saw five of these wrestlers earn places in the top eight spots in their respective age and weight divisions in South Dakota.
"It was an enjoyable season," said Morehart. "The kids worked hard. It was fun working with them, Joe and Randy."
At the state tournament, many volunteers helped by working on logistics and statistics. Workers included high school wrestling coaches, such as Philip's Matt Donnelly.
