Philip squeezed out by Stanley County
The Philip Scotties basketball team hosted the Stanley County Buffaloes, Thursday, December 16.

The Scotties allowed two baskets before they got on the scoreboard two and a half minutes into the game. Three pointers and free throw shots let the Buffaloes to increase that lead to 2-8. Then Philip rallied to end the first quarter 7-13. In the second quarter, the Scotties struggled to close the gap, succeeding to a 17-18 score. But Stanley County again pulled away, owing somewhat to the number of free throws they were given and their game average 59 percent success rate. The half ended 20-28.
The second half was a better time for the home audience, with the Scotties actually gaining on their opponents in the third quartet. Philip took the lead at the 7:20 mark of the fourth quarter, 37-36. Basket for basket was traded and the game was still tied, 47-47, at the 1:40 mark and again, 49-49, at the :40 mark. After hard play, a referee's inadvertant whistle, and several Stanley County free throw shots, that tie changed to a game end 51-54 score in favor of Stanley County.

The Philip junior varsity fared no better. Though they took the lead in the first quarter, the Scotties fell behind before halftime. They could never quite regain their momentum in the second half. The game ended with a 37-44 loss for Philip.
