Philip Scottie regular season ends with 50-0 win over Kadoka Kougars

On Thursday, October 22, the Philip Scotties traveled to Kadoka to challenge the Kougars in the last game of their regular high school football season. Philip ended the game in the third quarter with the 50-point rule when the score reached 50-0.

"Overall the performance of the Scotties was excellent," said Philip coach Keven Morehart. "There were some strong performances from Karch Foley, Travis Nelson, Troy Guptill, Trey Fortune, Wyatt Kammerer, Colin Van Lint, Jeff O'Connell, Tucker McDaniel and Clint Nelson in not allowing the Kougars to score. Offensively Brandon O'Dea, Foley, Kammerer, and T. Nelson had decent efforts running the ball. Casey Cvach broke the school season rushing record formerly held by Casey Cuny. Hopefully we are peaking at the right time, as playoffs are upon us."

In the first quarter, Cvach rushed for a 34-yard touchdown and Rob Williamson made good the extra point conversion. Cvach then make a 40-yard yard TD and Jeff O'Connell completed the conversion.

In the second quarter, Cvach finished a drive with an eight-yard TD. The extra point attempt failed. O'Dea rushed in a 96-yard carry for the next TD. The extra point attempt failed. Cvach made a 30-yard TD and then carried in the conversion. The first half ended 36-0 in favor of Philip.

Travis Nelson rushed in the ball for a 13-yard TD and Wyatt Kammerer made good the conversion. Kammerer carried in a 32 yard TD to end the game 50-0.

Earning 13 first downs, the Philip Scottie offense was led by Cvach, who used six rushing attempts to gain a total of 194 yards. Also among the leaders was O'Dea with two carries adding up to 97 yards. T. Nelson gained a total of 35 yards on three carries and Kammerer gained 49 yards in four attempts.

O'Dea passed four times, making two completions to gain a total of 12 yards.

Philip's defensive leaders included T. Nelson with four solo tackles and nine assisted tackles. Troy Guptill earned one solo and nine assists. Foley made three solos and six assists. McDaniel had one solo and seven assists and C. Nelson made one solo and six assists.

Matchings for the South Dakota high school football regional playoffs have been determined. In region 4, the number-three-seeded Philip Scotties faced the #2-seeded Herreid/Selby Area Wolverines on Tuesday, October 27. The #1 Lyman Raiders faced the #4 Lemmon/McIntosh Cowboys the same evening. The higher seeded team hosts each game.
