Philip Scottie golf season preview

Head coach Doug Hauk and members of his Scottie boys' and girls' teams have been practicing and are getting ready to start their 2007 golf season.

The Philip boys' golf team has 14 players. Two have state experience, Caleb Clements and Jordan Smith. Smith placed at the state tournament last year. Allen Hauk and Kolby Longbrake are returning as other members from last years varsity team. There are 10 younger players who will challenge for a spot on the varsity: Richie Baye, Brad Walker, Cecil Heeb, Colton Nickelson, David Hart, Devon Ehlers, Emery Gibson, Jeb Stewart, Jordan Hauk and Zach Baxter.

The Philip girls' team may be low on numbers, with just three members at present, but they are still a strong team. Ashley Berry, Tara Ravellette and Abby Fitzgerald were all state qualifiers last year.

With Wall's golf course not playable this school season, their tournament will be played on Philip's Lake Waggoner Golf Course.

The busy, up-dated season schedule is:

4/10 Meadowbrook Invitational at Rapid City, start time 9:30.

4/13 Wall Tournament at Philip, 9:30

4/20 Philip Invitational at Lake Waggoner Golf Course, 9:30

4/24 Stanley County JV Tournament at Ft. Pierre, TBA

4/24 Western Great Plains Conference Tournament in Murdo, TBA

5/04 Bennett County Tournament at Martin, 10:00

The state golf tournament practice round on May 20 is in conflict with the Philip High School graduation ceremony. Some players have already voiced that they will regretfully miss the state meet if they qualify at the regional tournament.
