Philip Matched Bronc Ride to be national calibre
The newly repaired and painted Philip Roping Arena will be a focal point during the Philip Centennial celebration. It will also become a point of history itself.
Twenty-five top class cowboys - all from within 100 miles of Philip - will match their rodeo abilities against "50 of the rankest saddle bronc stock around," according to the advertising poster.
Three progressive rounds of action will pit world famous Korkow and Mosbrucher bucking stock versus saddle bronc riders such as World Champions Chad Ferley (2006) and Jeff Willert (2005), NFR 2006 Average Winner J.J. Elshere and three-time NFR qualifier Red Lemmel.
The first round on Thursday, June 14, will display 25 rides; the second round will show the top 12 remaining cowboys; and the final round will be the top six going for the number one spot.
The famous Centennial buttons will provide entry to many activities during the weekend celebration, but this special event is extra.
Tickets are available in advance (call 605-859-2516) and at the gate. Admission also includes a buffalo sandwich and face-to-face access with the bronc riders for autographs. A casual autograph session will be from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. under the arena tent. The bronc riding starts at 7:00. Children 10 and under get in free.
Bring a camera, an autograph book, your appetite and a 'hankering' for some hard-riding fun.
