Philip Lady Scotties open basketball season with 44-58 loss to Wall Eagles

The Philip High School girls' basketball team began its 2010-2011 season with an away game. The Lady Scotties traveled to Wall to challenge the Lady Eagles, Thursday, December 9.

In the varsity game, Philip claimed and held the lead through the first half. Though the second quarter was a low-scoring one, Philip ended the first half with a 21-17 advantage.

The third quarter, though, presented serious trouble for the Lady Scotties, with the Wall team gaining and passing Philip with a quarter ending 21-43 on the scoreboard. During the final quarter, the Scotties could not make any gain. When the final buzzer sounded, the game ended with a 44-58 loss for Philip.

Philip scorers: Molly Coyle - 12, Kady Pinney - 11, Tomilyn Trask - 6, Krista Wells - 5, Katie Hostutler - 4, Josie Guptill, Misty Johnson and Bailey Radway - 2 each.

Wall scorers: Krysta Kjerstad - 15, Madison McLaughlin - 12, Tiana Kjerstad - 10, Autumn Schulz - 9, Sadie O'Rurke - 6, Chelsie Shearer and Bailey Lytle - 3 each.

Field goal percentage for Philip was 25 (18 of 71). Free throw percentage for Philip was 27 (7 of 26). One three-pointer was sunk, by Pinney.

Philip players earned 23 rebounds. Leaders: Pinney - 7, Guptill - 5, Hostutler and Johnson - 3 each, Trask and Coyle - 2 each, Wells - 1.

Philip had 14 steals. Leaders: Wells - 5, Guptill, Pinney and Coyle - 2 each, Holly Iwan, Kaeley Fenhaus and Jordyn Dekker - 1 each.

Philip players had five assists. Leaders: Pinney - 4, Wells - 1.

Philip experienced 12 turnovers and 21 team fouls.

The junior varsity game ended with a 10-16 loss for the Scotties. No other statistics were available on the junior varsity or on the "C" game.

The next game for the Philip Lady Scotties will be a girls' and boys' double-header in Philip starting at 2:30 p.m. versus the Stanley County Buffalos, Thursday, December 16. The following game will, again, be a girls' and boy's double-header starting at 2:30 a.m. in Philip, this time versus the

Edgemont Moguls, Saturday, December 18. The following game will be a double-header in Kadoka against the Kadoka Area Kougars, starting at 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 20.
