Parquets earn South Dakota State Trap Shoot awards

Sure-fire winners ... The South Dakota State Trapshoot was held in Mitchell, July 14-18. Three members of the Kadoka Trap Club, Tom, Mary and Kristi Parquet, and former member, Jesse Kaufmann, participated in the state shoot against approximately 250 other shooters. Kristi was the lady handicap champion on Thursday, July 15, with 89 hits out of a possible 100. She was also tied for lady handicap champ on Friday, July 16, with 91 out of 100, but finished with the runner-up spot with a 22 to 24 loss out of a possible 25 in the shoot-off. On Thursday, Tom won Class “C” Singles with 95 out of 100. He earned the 18-21 yard line handicap trophy with 92 out of 100. Tom also claimed the High Over All Class “C” Champ by shooting 815 out of 900 targets over the course of four days, including singles, handicap and doubles scores. The Kadoka shooters club practices in Kadoka almost every Wednesday night starting at 6:30. Tom said, “We have anywhere from five to nine people shooting each week. Anyone can shoot or join the trap club and we are always looking for new shooters. Kadoka will be hosting the Town Team shoot later this fall with teams from Martin, Draper, Wall and Kadoka shooting for the team title. There will be other shooters from Winner, Chamberlain, Edgemont, Custer and Rapid City also participating. To shoot at a registered shoot you must be an Amateur Trapshooting Association member. The ATA sponsors the state shoot. Each event – singles, handicap and doubles – is 100 clay targets, so it varies from shooter to shooter how many shells it takes at any given shoot. Most shoots are a 100 of each, but some competitions vary. Not everyone shoots all events. About the only restriction on shells is not over 1-1/8 ounce of shot and no shot larger then 7-1/2 shot.” Courtesy photo
